Whittier, CA Mystery Store

(Please Note: I apologize if this is in the wrong forum)

This former market is located on Hadley St at Comstock St.
Its been closed as long as I can remember.
There is no labelscars on the building or on any signage in the center.
The shopping center is closed as well.

Thanks for caring. Yes, anything that involves questions about specific locations should now go in the Commercial Archaeology forum.

From looking at the front, I was going to suggest Mayfair, but it looks a little too deep for that. They were usually more rectangular.

It was an Alpha Beta. This store closed when the new one opened up on Whittier Blvd. across from the Lucky Store (which is now a Stater Bros.) The city had planned to make it into a bowling alley....Guess it never happened.

It looks like this store had the address of 115 W. Bailey St, however that street address no longer exists. All of the addresses now have 5 digits. There was a Boston Store at that intersection as of 1976.

I found a 1971 column by the inimitable Jack Smith, who grew up in Whittier. He said he went to Jonathan Bailey Grammar School and it was now an Alpha Beta.
