"Dark Shadows" was one I remember specifically, with Joan Bennett perpetually dressed to the nines. I'm glad you metioned they were also in New York, as it seemed a little odd for a soap that was shot there to get its fashions from an LA store.

I'm pretty sure they were rather upscale, and the ads actually make me more certain of that.

I'd have to check the credits...but I am pretty sure I LOVE LUCY also listed OHRBACH'S under their fashions.

I remeber going to one ohrbach's store in woodbridge nj at the woodbridge center i think I went to one in new york also I just remeber the Oh! Oh!rbach's advertisment in 1987 the woodbridge stoe turned into steinbach's until their fate in 1995 and that store was demolished and rebuilt for lord and taylor

I love Lucy their clothes were from Orbach's. We had one at the Bergen Mall on Rt.4. It also had Stern's. JJ Newberry.

OHRBACH'S was already on Wilshire before they moved into the former Seibu store location. Back in the 50s Wilshire had a number of large stores - including Coulter's, May Co, Ohrbach's, Silverwoods, and Desmond's.

That store didn't last too long and was closed and reopened as a Bullocks Wilshire. Then it closed, becoming a I. Magnin store. Then that closed and became a Bullocks Mens store. Then a Macys mens store and recently closed and will be demolished for a Nordstrom.

There was also a Bonwit Teller in Beverly Hills at the corner of Wilshire and Rodeo (it's now a St John store and Niketown). It closed in 1989/1990 when BT went under.

With Mervyns closing, what will become of the former Cerritos Ohrbachs. I love that store a lot.

Ohrbach's was originally in what is now Museum Square at Wilshire and Masselin (5750 Wilshire).

Harris & Frank and The Broadway were two other stores on that stretch of Wilshire between La Brea and Fairfax back in the day. A huge new apartment complex just completed at the site of the old Broadway, which had remained an empty lot for decades.

Ah, the old Cerritos store reopened today as a FOREVER XXI and it looks awful. Goodbye to the old brickwork outside and now it looks like an aluminum hull. I have to see it in person. They have some pictures of it in hte OC Register.

Oh, yes, is sad to see the old exterior go! Had been the same FOREVER. (pun intended!)

Sincerely, just thought of Ohrbach's over the weekend...as I saw the credits of I LOVE LUCY, and Ohrbach's was listed as providing wardrobe (as mentioned above).

We all knew it couldnt last forever, but at least it lasted 23 years after OHRBACHS closed.

So true!

Now, at the other end was May Company, correct? Taller building with big 'ol hanging/swooping lights, correct?!

Does it still look the same?! Macy*s now?

I never stepped foot into that mall...yet, drove by it for years...primarily going down the 605 to the beach in the summer!
