This store opened as Meier & Frank in the 1950s. I always thought it was 1956, but the article says 1955. Not only did it predate the Lloyd Center location, it predated the Salem Center itself.
Worth noting are pictures of the former restaurant and beauty salon (which may still have original 1950s wallpaper), as well as pictures of the boiler room and some old books such as maintenance logs and specification sheets from when the store opened as Meier & Frank. It also has photos of some areas of the retail area which were looking tired. Hopefully those old books can be preserved in a museum or something.
I kinda wanted to visit this location one last time before it closed, but a crazy work schedule has interfered with my free time for the last few months, and I simply did not have time to get down there.
