I am wondering if the national chain, "Food Fair" was the same "Food Fair" that was in Stockton in the 1960's? I did some research looking through Stockton Record Newspaper microfilm at the public library today. In an article from February 11, 1967, there was a story of the opening of a second "Food Fair" in North Stockton at 7920 N. Lower Sacramento Road(The first location was in South Stockton at 2053 Mariposa Road). This Food Fair was 18,000 square feet and was owned and operated by a "Donald L. Landucci". The structure was erected by Craft Construction of stockton who also built the Country Club Safeway and other Safeway's. With this information, does this mean that the Stockton "Food Fairs" are the same as the national chain of the same name? Did Donald L. Landucci own the national Food Fair chain?

The two chains were completely unrelated. Stockton's Food Fair was purely local, as were the Food Fair chain in Winston-Salem NC and several others nationwide. I think Bruno's in the deep south operated yet another one under the Food Fair name at one point. It's been a very commonly-used name over the years, just like Giant, Food World, Food Town, Big Bear, etc.

Food Fair did, as has been discussed in other threads, have operations in Southern California under the Fox Markets name.

I know of no connection between Landucci and the Friedland family (which owned Food Fair Inc.)

But the time line is very interesting, in that the Friedland family was very protective of the moniker and has many court cases recorded regarding this.

Bruno's Food Fair was actually (don't know for how long) a franchise agreement between the owners of Bruno and the Friedland's Food Fair Inc. There were several of these franchise agreements around the country (........'s Food Fair), as was told to me by a Vice President of Food Fair Inc. in the late 60's. I am hard pressed to substantiate this claim, given my inferior research abilities (and the time to devote to that end), but I do remember glossing over several "annual reports" making mention of these scattered "franchised" Food Fairs.
