Neighboring store wars!

From Chain Store Age in March 1966...this piece talking about the intersection of Third and South Vermont in Los Angeles being battled by the flagship Ralphs (still there) and a Safeway (now Vons) that had just extended its operating hours to 24/7 (at the time, a rarity for Safeway) makes me wonder: are there any other examples of direct "store war" between neighboring competitors?

The ex-QFI, now a closed Bell (and possible Pacific Super in the future) in South San Francisco was just a block away from the Chestnut Avenue/Antoinette Lane Safeway, but while both stores existed together for years (the QFI dating back to the 1950s and the Safeway a 1970s-styled shake roof build), I don't remember them ever "shooting back" at each other like this.
