7000 Bancroft Oakland, CA

This store operates as independent Gazzali's Supermarket at the present time.
This site notes it was a Safeway through 1980. It is obviously a former Safeway originally.
Looking at the liquor license it shows it was something called Blacks Market through 1996, then there is a liquor license to Bell Markets FoodsCo (pre Kroger) from 1996-1997.
However this article says the store is a former Albertsons and had been vacant since 1994 when the current operator opened it back up in 2004.

I’m 99% certain this was never an Albertsons, Particularly in 1994, but I’ll see what I can dig up. I don’t think Albertsons was even operating in Alameda county west of the Oakland Hills at that point. I do vaguely remember it being vacant in 1999 when I started doing most of my research. Eastmont was kind of a dying mall at that point.

From various Oakland Tribune articles:
Safeway seems to have closed about 1980. Several independents operated in the space through the 1980s. Cala moved in as of 1990 under the ABC Markets banner, which was used in lower-income urban areas; many of those ultimately became Food 4 Less, including another former Safeway in San Francisco. F4L (maybe FoodsCo at that point) apparently closed in 1996. Albertsons and Safeway were both supposedly interested in the site as part of a 2001 redevelopment scheme but that never happened, and the current operator took over in 2004.

Yeah, I never heard of Albertsons operating in Oakland pre-1999, but they were sort of odd on locations in NorCal over the years, so I didn't completely rule out the idea when I saw the article.
May have been some confusion in the article on ABC being Albertsons. Maybe this one didn't make the conversion from ABC to F4L for some reason. Doesn't really look like it ever got a "warehouse" type model.
