I stumbled upon this vintage IGA sign in Daniels, VA on Google Maps:

Um, the location in your link isn't in Virginia. It's in West Virginia. Saying that the census-designated place of Daniels, WV is in Virginia is like saying that Old Orchard Beach, Maine is in Massachusetts.
As luck has it, I'm familiar with this area, and this building housed a Galaxy Foods-affiliated store in the 1990s and 2000s. The "IGA" sign is a faux-retro modern creation. The structure is not on the 1976 USGS map, but
Historic Aerials proves that it was built by 1986. I'd guess that it opened in the late 1970s, and was always an independent.
