Pleasanton, Calif.-Safeway Store Locations

There have been at least three Safeway store locations in Pleasanton, Calif. (which eventually became the city where the Safeway headquarters were located):
(1) 749 Main Street (source: "Oakland Tribune" advertisement, January 1963)
(2) Santa Rita Road/Valley Avenue - opened mid-1960s, closed Dec. 1996 (gable style roof)
(3) Santa Rita Road/Valley Avenue - opened Dec. 1996; still in use in 2021
In Dec. 2021, Facebook comments in the "You know you're from Pleasanton, CA" forum stated that Governor Ronald Reagan cut the ribbon for the opening of the shopping center in the mid-1960s (unconfirmed). Other comments that the the 1960s Safeway had a lunch counter-style restaurant within it.
In Dec. 1996, the old store (near Valley Ave.) closed and the replacement store opened in the same shopping center (near Santa Rita Road).
There is a great photo of the facade of the 1960s store, with construction of the replacement store visible in the background. It was posted to Facebook by Steve Blenio.
