Winnipeg-Safeway-Early 20th Century Store Facade Featured in Mural

Post by Jason B. »

A mural in Winnipeg, Manitoba features a Safeway store facade from the 1920s or '30s.
The mural was painted circa 2016. See: https://www.google.com/maps/@49.8904675 ... 312!8i6656

The mural is located on a building at 812 Wall Street on a wall facing St. Matthew's Avenue. According to the "Murals of Winnipeg" website, artists are Dave Carty and Tom Andrich. See: http://www.themuralsofwinnipeg.com/Mpag ... uralid=347

Mr. Carty explains on that webpage, "Below Christies is an early Canada Safeway store. At the time Safeway had its Canadian head office in Winnipeg`s West End on Pacific Avenue (1929). There are a number of these early Safeway store facades still found throughout Winnipeg today."
