In 1958, a ten-minute educational film titled "Behind the Scenes at the Supermarket" focused on the behind-the-scenes operations at a Mayfair supermarket at an unspecified location that presumably was in California.

It possibly was in the San Diego area because the credits (at 0:14) refer to a San Diego schools person as educational consultant. However, the location could be anywhere, but probably was somewhere in California. Film Associates of California was the producer. A very good exterior shot is at 0:21 to 0:33. It depicts a pylon-style sign towering over the store (very 1950s). The store was located on the westerly side of a north-south commercial street (based on the angle of the morning shadows at 0:36). Arden Milk/dairy products are seen in the film. Was Arden Mayfair's private label dairy product brand? See: http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company- ... c-history/
Truck deliveries are depicted at the loading dock. A fruit/vegetable truck was not refrigerated, but instead apparently had wooden slat sidings for ventilation while driving. A second, upper level of the Mayfair supermarket was used for inventory storage. The meat and vegetable/fruit departments are profiled. A sign artist is shown at work around 7:30.
