Including not one, but TWO incarnations of the legendary 40 Watt Club (including the current one) that were housed in former Colonial/Big Star stores:

Re: NEW: Athens GA, 1923-2015
This is a nice surprise! It's not exactly brimming with surviving artifacts, though...Athens has been a little too redevelopment-happy over the years. There is a 1970s Bell's still open for business at 995 Hawthorne Ave. A decently-preserved A&P centennial at 101 Alps Rd. And a couple of severely mucked-up Kroger greenhouses on Broad Street and College Station Road.
Athens is a cultural oasis and a musical mecca. Alas, I can't think of any songs the B-52's recorded about grocery stores; though they did immortalize a general-merchandise chain with the line "Walking out of Korvettes, package in her hand" a mere three months before that company went out of business!

"The pale pastels which have been featured in most food stores during the past 20 years are no longer in tune with the mood of the 1970s."
