I was tickled to come across this old relic of a food store in the Lake Erie hamlet of Port Burwell, Ontario:It scarcely qualifies as a supermarket. I peeked inside, and most of the shelves were filled with hard goods and tourist merchandise...with just a token selection of actual groceries. The store itself was on the tiny side, with old wooden flooring. I wonder how long it's been around? I'd guess the 1940s based on the architecture, but I've been wrong before.
"The pale pastels which have been featured in most food stores during the past 20 years are no longer in tune with the mood of the 1970s."
