old safeway in las vegas

When looking at the GIS program las vegas has here for the following address:

3535 W. Sahara Ave.
Las Vegas, NV 89102-5869

I found the following information in the assessors detailed page:

070-130-029 SAFEWAY STORES INC *0865:0824998 03/30/1978 200 3.03 AC

http://gisgate.co.clark.nv.us/openweb/a ... 6208101004

Anyone remember this store possibly? It's now a comp usa. next time I go to it I will take some photos of the front/inside of it. The inside sans all the signs and stuff from safeway doesn't seem to be really torn up all that much from my point of view.

Safeway - CompUSA

Post by rnaikens »

This block has an interesting history. The original Safeway store is next door to the Latino Mkt on the west end. It was closed and a new store built (CompUSA location ) in the 70's. Von's operated the store for a short time after they took over all the Vegas stores. It sat empty for a short time before Comp opened it. There are upstairs offices and a large warehouse area (east side of store)that Comp barely uses.

rnaikens - welcome to the board!

Here's a shot of the CompUSA, from Live Local:

So is the building between CompUSA and the Latino market the original Safeway?
