If anyone here remembers how far back we'd had chain restaurants here in Portland, OR, I would be satisfied.
For example:
McDonald's opened its first Portland-area restaurant at the corner of NE 122nd Ave. & Glisan St. in February 1960.
Burger King opened its first Portland-area restaurant near Mall 205 in 1974.
Wendy's opened its first Portland-area restaurants in 1977, although it was not until after 1980-81 that they really opened more locations.
Taco Bell opened its first Portland-area restaurants around 1970-72.
Kentucky Fried Chicken had its first franchised restaurants here in the late 1950s/early 1960s. One location which is now a Taco Time, situated at SE 50th & Powell, was franchised by Speck's (until the mid-late 1970s), which also franchised another KFC in Gresham which is a Taco Bell since the early 1990s.

Re: History of Chain Restaurants in Portland, OR
Denny's has some older-looking locations in Portland. One such location is at Jantzen Beach and it even has a neon road sign. I almost would guess this predates the Jantzen Beach center itself, possibly built in the 1960s.
