Honolulu Safeway

Yes, I'm in Honolulu for two weeks. I couldn't have been here a full afternoon before I spotted a nondescript Safeway... until I saw this...

Yep, it's a hidden Marina with three generations of the Safeway S on it... it's the only Safeway I've seen with the new logo on the main sign without having any hint of a Lifestyle remodel.

Other things of note: The service counter is behind a window in the back of the store, next to the Pharmacy (how rare, if at all, were Pharmacies in Marina Safeways?)

I think they were almost exclusively later additions.

Great photos!

And another find! While documenting some Longs stores, I found what may be the only Gable-era Safeway with a complete Lifestyle remodel! The store also has a vintage Circle-S streetside sign, and what may be a "Lifestyle 2.5" package. It has the arch elements of the Mark II Lifestyle package, but also adds graphics to the walls flanking the department signs... Pictures being uploaded as we speak...
