old grocery stores in/near Denver, CO
Does anyone know of any old grocery stores, drug stores, department stores, e.t.c. in Colorado (preferably the Denver area) that are still in operation? Thanks
Denver markets
There is an old King Soopers location around Knox and 1st that is still a grocery store under a different name. The Safeway at Pecos and I-70 is still in operation.
All over town there are old grocery buildings that have different uses now. There is a Marina Safeway off Colfax east of Broadway that is an Office Depot. Farther down Colfax, Church in the City used to be a gabled Safeway. In downtown Arvada, a really old Safeway is now a suplus store, and behind it is a closed Marina Safeway that is now an Elks club, or something like that.

Re: Denver markets
Tesg posted a photo of that in the other Denver thread a while back...it might be the only Safeway still in operation that uses its pylon (as opposed to merely using the building, but with the pylon removed, which is the case for the store in Burlingame, CA). While you could argue the flagship Market Street store in SF uses its original pylon-styled sign, it was always freestanding and the building itself was remodeled into the Marina design in the 1960s.Spike wrote:There is an old King Soopers location around Knox and 1st that is still a grocery store under a different name.
