Happy Sunday afternoon. Enjoy some A&P, Eisner, Piggly Wiggly, Jewel, and National stores, among others.

Thank you for the post. What I have seen is a Kroger on 155 N Lincoln as of 1931 (store #3037) in another directory, but there are none at that address, though there are two close by (one at a corner with Lincoln/Governor) as of 1930-1937. Any leads on that?

Nothing concrete, but a theory: I suspect that the store at 1157 Governor (at Lincoln) is the one you're looking for. It may have shown an address of 1155 and it would be easy for someone to confuse the two cross streets and lose a digit. I've seen things like that happen elsewhere with stores on a corner.

155 North Lincoln seems to have always been residential. In 1931, a Ms. Lulu Cox was apparently living at that address, though the address no longer seems to exist. The highest house number in the 100 block now seems to be 125 and that house looks to date from maybe the late 1950s. it's possible there was some renumbering at some point, but I don't see a listing for a Kroger anywhere else on the street between 1931 and 1951 either.

I don't have access to Springfield newspapers so I can't cross-check that way.
