If you're interested. Obviously this is nowhere near the full history of supermarkets in this area, but these are ones that I know. And not sure why it's only giving me a bullet point for the first line of each list... if you can tell me how to fix it, I will!

Clifton
  • 505 Allwood Rd - was CTown in the 90s following GU's closure
    1189 Broad St - 2022: Stop & Shop
435 Lexington Ave - a SuperFresh owner just signed a lease for that property last month
1223 Main Ave - was Fine Fare approx. 1976-1979
    1590 Main Ave - 2022: Corrado's Market
Passaic
  • 167 Jefferson St - today called 161 Jefferson. A&P closed 1970s and CTown opened Feb. 1978. President Supermarket opened 1984 and closed around 2002, followed by Pioneer, Compare Foods by 2007, and SuperFresh in 2021
    196 Main Ave - 2022: Kosher Konnection
    303 Monroe Ave - 2022: Plaza Mexico
Paterson
  • 440 20th Ave - today called 444 20th. Still GU in 1970. Paterson IGA opened 1982, was "Chancellor Food Corp" (possibly dba IGA) in 1986. CTown by 1991.
    348 21st Ave - 2022: King's Meat Market
498 E 30th St - ShopRite opened between 1965 and 1968 (I think 1966) and converted to Pathmark in 1969. Pathmark switched to Food Basics in 2008, sold to GalaFresh Farms in 2015 which sold to Food Universe in 2019. GalaFresh and Food Universe are both Key Food but different owners
142 W Broadway - ShopRite opened 1965, became Pathmark 1969 and was still open by 1974. Unsure when closed, CTown opened in 1985, Super Supermarket opened by 1994 and closed 2014 when the existing store at 31 Memorial Dr opened.
409 W Broadway - Became Nicholas Markets Foodtown in 1979, which closed in 2003 or 2004
67 Broadway - Guarantee Food Market opened 1931 and later joined Foodtown co-op. Still Foodtown by 1973. It became Certified Supermarkets in 1984 which was still open by 1998. Then Bravo, which closed 2020.
200 Broadway - Still A&P by 1975, became Bob's Supermarket by 1977 which became Bob's Fine Fare in 1981 until Bob was arrested in 1982... Then it became a liquor store after that and then Morval Supermarket by 1990, Bravo by 1994, and Super Supermarket after 2003. Golden Mango opened 2012.
159 Buffalo Ave / 80 Delaware Ave - this store(s) was replaced by 465 Getty Ave in the 1970s, which converted to Food Basics around 2000. Food Basics sold to Farmboy Country Market in 2015, then switched to SuperFresh the following year.
430 Madison Ave - today called 444 Madison Ave. Foodtown from 1979 to at least 1994, and was CTown by 2001.
355 Market St - lots of changes in a short time here so I'm a little fuzzy but here goes: Compare Foods 2015-2016, Tropical 2016-2018, Key Food 2018-2019, Associated 2019-2020 or 2021
    946 Market St - Food Fair round 2 (2009-present)
Haledon
  • 480 Haledon Ave - 408 Haledon, right? Became Nicholas Markets Foodtown in 1979, sold to Super Supermarket in 2005. Owners of Nicholas still own the neighboring liquor store.

I think it's mainly because the text editor that's built into phpBB is crap.

Thanks for these. I will dive in and add notes to the existing sheet tomorrow when I have a brain again!
