shopping Center sw corner Central & Walnut-Chino

Post by scanman2 »

Hopefully somebody can remember this. At this shopping center mentioned above was the original loacation of Vons #99 in Chino and the other side of the parking lot had a drug/variety store of some type. The Vons was replaced with Pic n Save (now Big Lots). Where the other drug store was has been divided and there is an auto store, Salvation Army thrift store and I think some video store as well as a Radio Shack. I can remember that the store that was there also had a location on Hacienda Blvd just north of the 60 fwy. Anybody remember the stores name?

There was no drug store on Hacienda north of the 60.

At the corner of Gale and Azusa you had a Ole's Home Center and a Lucky Market.

There was a Thrifty south on hacienda and the 60.

There was some kind of variety store, the same chain, there and in Chino, they both had a garden center on the side, maybe not a drug store, but they carried a variety similar to a TG&Y but larger. A large makeup counter in the front and had a large selection of health & beauty.

Cornet store maybe? They were pretty big up until the 80's.

I finally spoke to someone that remembers. It was called Sprouse Reitz, later called Sprouse. There was one on Hacienda Blvd. not at Gale but just south of the 60 fwy. Before the retaining and sound wall was put up on the freeway you could see it from the 60 freeway.
