Just saw this posted on Flickr yesterday:

The photo is from 1982, and the building doesn't exist anymore (I drove by that intersection a few times this month) - architecture looks to be rather similar to the recently replaced marina Safeway that was at 7th and Fulton near Golden Gate Park, which dated back to 1959 or so as well.
Anyone have more information on this particular unit?

The address was 690 Chestnut. It opened prior to 1960 (probably just barely prior) and closed late in 1988. This is one of the stores I've most wanted to see a picture of, so this is pretty cool...
