Update to the ex-Alpha Beta, Chino Hills CA

Post by luckysaver »

In 1973 (per the Esther Cramer book), Alpha Beta announced the location of a future store in Chino Hills CA. The neighborhood was unofficially called Glenmeade at the time (I think it referred to the housing tract behind the shopping center). This is the corner of Chino Hills Parkway (State Route 142) and Pipeline Ave. I last visited the store as an Alpha Beta circa 1993 when it sported the new logo under the Yucaipa Food4Less ownership. After the store closed as part of Yucaipa combining Food4Less and Ralphs in 1994 and flipping it to make Ralphs the larger side of the new division, (closed due to the former Ralphs further up the hill), Pic N Save took over the space until it was renamed Big Lots.

Big Lots closed this location late last year and since then contractors have been remodeling the building, as seen in the photos courtesy of Champion Newspapers:

It just had a grand opening as Grocery Outlet.

The adjacent 99 Cents Only parcel (I think it was a Thrifty Drug store) was purchased by Wood Investments back in September.
