A "Marina"-style Safeway store opened in Livermore circa 1961 at First Street and Q Street. A new Safeway store opened behind it in 1975, a store that was greatly expanded in 2000.

The "Marina" Safeway in Livermore was an Orchard Supply Hardware location from the late 1970s (after Safeway moved to the new store behind it) until the building was demolished circa 1995.

The big news today is that Orchard Supply Hardware donated an aerial photo of its original Livermore store (the former Marina Safeway) to an archive circa 2018. Here is a link:

I disagree with the label that this photo was taken "c. 1976." This photo most likely was taken in the mid or late 1980s. The K-mart store in the background opened in 1983, so it's impossible that this photo was taken anytime in the 1970s.

I suspect that aerial photos of other former chain grocery stores are in this Orchard Supply Hardware collection that is now held by "History San Jose."

Here is a 1974 shot of the rear of the Livermore, California Marina-style Safeway store building that operated as a Safeway from its construction and opening in 1960 until 1975 and thereafter as an Orchard Supply Hardware store until circa 1995, when it was demolished.

This photo apparently was taken by Steve Arnold as part of a Granada High School photo project in 1974. He graduated from the school in 1975.

The new shopping center was under construction in the foreground. The Safeway store moved into the new shopping center, to the left (east) of this photo in 1975. That new store building, expanded in 2000, is still a Safeway today.
