Gerry and Ephrata1966:

Gene was MUCH MORE than simply a spokesperson for Acme. that was a side job. He was a longtime fixture on Philadelphia Television he was at WCAU (originally CBS now NBC) for 57 years in numerous capacities, as a man on the street interviewer, the host of numerous childrens shows, and later as a weatherman. in addition to Acme he did other commercials for grocery products such as Welch's Grape juice and Gulden's mustard. He is also the father of David Crane the co-producer of the old NBC tv sitcom "Friends" (yes that Friends!) more can be known about MR Crane here.

Bringing this back to the issue of supermarket history. (in respect to our Webmaster who has provided us with this great forum to speak on such issues)
Being from the area but being born after his days advertising for Acme ended I most associate him with his work on channel 10 WCAU-TV as a reporter/weatherman. It wasnt until I found the cartoon featuring gene crane speaking for Acme and an ad for Acme (thanks to John S Flack) that I knew he did advertise Hack-A-Mee.
