Wow finally some info on this! I had asked around a while ago about the location on Atlantic in Maywood, CA and got zero feedback. From what I was told by family, that location was closed due to a fire that broke out in the early 60's. By the time I remember the store, it had been rebuilt long befor...

Fedco did have gas stations at a couple of thier locations. The ones I remember are Pasadena (caddy-corner to the store), and Ontario (in the lot). La Cinega, San Bernardino I dont recall having gas stations. I do know the Buena Park Fedco didn't have one, since it was built in an old May Company s...

The one that comes to mind immediately is up in Barstow; I know the Safeway there is now operating as Vons but not sure what the Super S is. (There's a photo of it in this site's 1960s Safeway section.) If this is the building I'm thinking of, it was vacant the last time I saw it. To the right, the...

In the late 90's I was a manger for Toys International, a So Cal based company that was originally called Play Co. Toys. At their height in 1999 they had 45 stores under Play Co. Toys, Toyco and Toys International. Most of the Play Co's were in So Cal and were about 2/3 the size of Toys R Us, the T...

Alpha Beta spin-offs
Years ago I had been rummaging around the internet and came across a picture of a "FAD" store in Rubidoux, CA (may have been this site). Similar to Big Star and WEO? Not familiar with those. I do remember the Skaggs Alpha Beta stores (only one I ever saw was in Anaheim), and it seemed to m...

That Albertson's facade is the same as a now closed location on Sierra in Fontana. The grocery store in the same parking lot as the old McDonald's in Downey used to be a Market Basket. And there was a very old office building in L.A. near some train tracks that I guess was once the local HQ for the ...
