Looked into this a little more and noticed that both this store and the Mt. Pocono location are still called Bill's Shop-Rite which would suggest the same ownership as when they were both Shur-Save. The Shop-Rite banner would certainly offer much more options in the way of advertising and promotion ...

In looking at the photo, more interesting tidbits are coming to mind. The parking lot configuration has been changed. When it was an A+P, the lot was set up so cars would face the adjoining properties. Here they face the building and the road. Also the retaining wall on the right of the building was...

New Shoprite-Daleville, Pa.
At first when drpep mentioned this store, I honestly thought it was a mistake. After seeing the pictures and noticing a mention of what it previously was, it all fits. My parents shopped this store a lot in the '70's when we lived there. First off, that is NOT the store's original location. It was f...

I can tell you with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that the Moscow, Pa. photo is definitely a former A+P. I lived about 7 miles or so from it when I was a kid and went to high school and middle school in town. On the right side of the building was the entrance and maybe someone can help me on this since I never...

I'm thinking Acme on that Troy store as well because there's a similar looking Bi-Lo in Hallstead, Pa. (on the NY/Pa border along I-81) which was once an Acme in its former life. Bi-Lo also had a store in Carbondale, Pa. which opened as an Acme or Super Saver in the early-mid '70's. That store is no...

State Farm Commercial
Not sure if this is the right place for this and I apologize if it isn't. Saw a commercial for State Farm auto insurance a few days back where somebody comes out of a supermarket to find his name scratched into the door of his car. There was a shot of the front of the store and the name on the build...

Could that Henrietta store have been a Grand Union in another life? Looks very much like a design they used in the 70's-white where the signage is with wood shingles. GU built a store in Gloversville, NY in the early '70's that looked very familiar to this. And that Fairport store looks like Wegman'...

A+P-110 Washington St., Morristown, NJ
As you probably recall from the A+P "Centennial" thread, this store and a picture of it was mentioned. I was in that area yesterday and decided to do some exploring and YES this store STILL EXISTS as depicted in the picture. Some particulars about the interior: the entire store consists of...

The A+P website lists a store at that address. It also did not list the location as offering a pharmacy and/or a bank and judging by the size of the building, there likely isn't any room for either. Did notice the coupola with the weathervane on top of the roof was missing. Looks like it may have be...

I'd have to say the one that did it for me is a building that's still (barely) standing. It was an old Loblaws in Gloversville, NY that closed in 1975 when they built a then state of the art store in the downtown area. Amazingly, they NEVER took the signage down and it remains (what's left of it) on...

North Utica Shopping Center in Utica, NY in the early '70's had an Acme in the middle and a Loblaws on one end. Today, that same center is home to a Price Chopper. Also interesting to note that at the same time, there was a stand alone Super Saver (another American Stores' banner) on down NY State R...
