Albertsons Lawn and Garden Centers
While the "new" Albertsons as created by the unification of New Albertsons Inc. and Albertsons LLC under common ownership is probably the better-run and overall better company, the "old" Albertsons Inc. did have more markets in better days and a willingness to expand outside the ...

Re: Closed Albertsons divisions
I'm certain some divisions will be cut or merged. By the time the merger is done, Albertsons will have stores operating in Baton Rouge where the distribution center and division is closer to Houston, the Dallas stores will be in three different divisions (Houston for the Tom Thumb, South for Alberts...

Re: Lucky Stores, Inc. - History - 1931 to 1968
It makes note of Lucky Discount Center, which predated Gemco. Was it converted into a Gemco later?

Re: "Albertsons Market"
Some Google Maps evidence shows that at least one Dallas store shows up as "Albertsons Market", but that was because the whole chain was being "Market"ed as that at the time (My apologies for the pun). I remember that when New Albertsons Inc. was sold back to AB Acquisition LLC, ...

Re: Kroger Family Centers
The one in College Station was called "Family Center" for a while even though it never was. Later on, a video store annex was built onto it called "Family Video Center", same font (I'm sure I mentioned it before), but it later closed. This annex wasn't at the same height of the s...

Re: Closed Albertsons divisions
Kinda seems to weird though that the Kerrville and New Braunfels stores (the other stores closed in 2011) as part of the Dallas division. Either way, since the Houston division wasn't established proper until the mid-1990s it was possible that the B/CS stores never transferred to it. By 1999, there ...

Closed Albertsons divisions
I'm trying to figure out what Albertsons divisions (with offices) have closed prior to the 5-region consolidation (soon to be like 13 or so following incorporation of both New Albertsons and Safeway). To date, this is what I have: - The South division was the old Dallas-Fort Worth division, which wa...

Re: "Albertsons Market"
According to Archive.org, it didn't seem that Albertsons Market wasn't used for Albertsons LLC until 2012. That said, I remember circulars being for "Albertsons Market" in May 2011, and that Denham Springs store opened as Albertsons. That said, I've found some photos on Flickr that have Al...

Re: Apple Tree- San Diego- Former Safeway
They must have bought the signage (appears to be repainted) from the Texas AppleTree stores (all former Safeways) that closed in the early 1990s. As you may know, the whole 100-store Houston division spun off but couldn't sustain itself, and within a few years sold all but half a dozen of its stores...

Re: Kroger Family Centers
I found mention of a Kroger in Conroe that was 70k square feet, opened in the late 1970s...was that the Family Center location?!

Re: "Albertsons Market"
Looks like they're using Albertsons Market in Albertsons stores moving to the United division in Texas and New Mexico now. I've never heard of a company recycling nameplates...

Re: Jewel T - store design and range of operations
Based on some phone books I have, Jewel T became Texas T in the 1980s. Texas T was later bought by SuperValu (cite: FundingUniverse) in 1994, so what I'm guessing is American Stores cut off Jewel T in the 1980s, the Texas division became Texas T, and that was bought by SuperValu and killed.

Re: Kroger Family Centers
The College Station store was built in the early 1980s and was never a Family Center...while it did have a "Family Center Video" (see ad that I posted on one of my blogs ), that was apparently built on later. Meanwhile, there was one Kroger in Bryan that jumped around locations. The first ...

Re: 1958 Safeway Book
The most interesting thing is the listing of their private brands, many of which were likely scuttled as early as the 1970s. There's "Zippy" pickles, Van Zee cheese, "Scamper" detergent, and Cragmont sodas.

Re: "Albertsons Market"
I was told that the Albertsons that were the three stragglers (Kerrville, New Braunfels, and College Station) all in markets far removed from Dallas-Fort Worth or Baton Rouge were all huge losers (Kerrville was the one H-E-B wanted but had to take the other two, and decided to close both). 2011 make...
