Dutch Square Mall, Columbia SC: A&P?

Image

I'm guessing it was an A&P. It looks like a detached A&P from a similar mall in High Point NC. Anyone want to confirm?

Re: Mikes-Sacramento, CA

Here are some pictures of this store before a new sign was put up sometime over the past year. The discount portion of the prices seems to have also gone away. Still the same other than that. I think this store is a good example of a preserved Mayfair interior. Too bad the office is on a raised pla...

The superstore decor was very 1970's rustic- earth tones, wood trim, different brick patterns in the tile in each department, green in produce, red in meat, yellow in deli for example. "Tomorrow's store today: Kroger's got it!" Sorry. Just had to sing the superstore jingle, which is still...

Wow....from what I have read before, I had been under the impression that Kroger had been here a while before selling to Bi-Lo...but 6 months definitely isn't long at all! I'd love to hear more on this. Actually, Kroger had been in Charlotte for over a decade prior to this "swap". They go...

Re: Food Giant, Ogletree's

Food Giant: We (me and my family, growing up in Atlanta) shopped here a lot -- at least I think we did. Dad swears it was actually Food Lion , but I swear it was Giant. How about Giant Food? I donlt know anything about it, but I remembered shooting one when I was in Atlanta in 2001, and sure enough...

Re: Best Products

Hey all, This is my first post in a community I've been observant of for some time now; it's good to be here. Does anybody recall having a Best Products store near them? There was one, maybe two, up/down here in Grand Rapids, Michigan that closed in the late 1990's. One of the buildings sat empty f...

Charlotte NC 1988: Kroger/Bi-Lo Swap

Hi all... I know this was discussed on the old board, but I'm bringing it back to life here. In 1988, a strange series of swaps happened between Kroger and Ahold-owned Bi-Lo in Charlotte NC. What happened, from my memory and miscellaneous research, is that Bi-Lo exited the Charlotte market in April ...

Re: Former Safeways in Los Angeles

Hi Gang, Forgive me if you think this is an inappropriate post for this part of the forum, but I want to know the addresses of all of the former Safeways in the Los Angeles, CA area that became Vons stores in 1986. Benjamin (StoreLiker2005) Not inappropriate at all. I'd like to see this list too, a...

I've moved this to the "Chains" forum since it's gotten (a) quite interesting, and (b) quite A&P-centric... At this point, I'll repeat my recent cry for anyone who may have actual vintage photos of A&P Futurestores in operation when they had their original decor to please 'fess up...

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought I remembered it as a Futurestore; I believe it opened close to the (brief) time I lived in Myrtle Beach in 1986. I knew about the Family Marts; I've been to the one in Columbia; if I'm not mistaken, there is another former FM in West Columbia or Cayce as well. ...

Re: Richway

LS Ayres in Indianapolis had "Ayr-way" (which, like Richway, was eventually bought by Target). Federated Dept. Stores (Lazarus et al.) had Gold Circle and Gold Triangle, while May had Venture (in St. Louis & Chicago, as well as places in between). Kroger operated a small number of Gol...

Re: Retro Ingles

I would assume that these are fading rapidly, but since I've seen 2, I would assume that this was the "standard" Ingles format during the 1970s, and as such, was just wondering what the current status was (if any). Actually, I was told that the prototype pictured in my journal actually be...
