Downtown Gig Harbor QFC
Yesterday, I was in the QFC in downtown Gig Harbor. I had been in there before but I am really surprised that it has not been remodeled! This store originally was Uddenberg's Thriftway. It was also the last piece of the Uddenberg empire to be purchased by QFC. Originally it was part of the Uddendber...

I also forgot to mention that the Shelton Fred Meyer Marketplace is also a former Stock Market Foods.

Re: QFC Closing Lakewood Store
The Woodinville, Gig Harbor, Port Orchard, Belfair, Port Townsend and Bremerton stores are all ex Uddenberg stores. But it does seem that most of the Uddenberg acquisition was a bust for QFC. A lot of the stores were located in more working class areas. It seems to me that it would have made sense f...

Re: Mayfair Markets - Geography and History
Besides Walla Walla, where were the other Eastern Washington Mayfair stores? I had always thought they were only in the greater Seattle area?

Re: Former IHOP locations
There is also a former IHOP location in Burien, WA at the corner of 1st Ave S and SR 518. It is now a Thai restaurant. But it still has the distinctive roof.

Re: PayLess Drug Stores
I too remember that PayLess really didn't change the ex Pay 'n Save stores' decor. In fact, at Westwood Village in West Seattle, PayLess they never remodeled the exterior of the store when the mall got a makeover in the early 90's. At that time, Westwood Village, which became Westwood Town Center, a...

Re: Lucky Stores in Washington
It is true that QFC acquired the Keith Uddenberg Stock Market Food locations and some of their Thriftways. But this was when QFC was still independent. However until the merger with Fred Meyer, QFC kept some of the Stock Market locations branded as Stock Market Foods. I don't know if they wanted Sto...

I believe that much of the death has been due to the resurgance of the Triangle Mall, whice I believe is now called Triangle Center.

Re: Any NON-FOOD Fred Meyer stores still operating?
There is a NON-FOOD Fred Meyer still operating. It is the Greenwood store in Seattle. It is formerly a Leslie's/Valu-Mart store. There have been attmepts to add food at this location. Across the parkling lot is a store called Greenwood Market, which is a former Lucky store. Both stores are on proper...

Re: All Pay'n Save's in Seattle as of 1980! From old ad!
I will update you on the two Westside Pay 'n Save locations. The Westwood Village location made the transition to Rite Aid until the mall was renovated. At that point, Rite Aid remained a tennant at Westwood Village but built a free standing location. The Burien location was sold to Bartell Drugs wh...

Re: Safeway UK Video on YouTube
Since the wonderful Safeway jingle music is on this page, I thought I would give you ALL the words to it! "We work a little harder. We go a little farther. We give a little extra. We care a little more. We don't do it because we have to. We do it because we can do, that little extra effort that...

In the Pacific Northwest, Gov-Mart/Bazar, had these conveyor devices. That is the only chain around here that I remember having those.

Re: Three Generations Of Des Moines WA Safeway
It seems to me that this was one of the first Safeway Superstores built after the "Circle S" was retired and the "Ribbon S" logo was brought in. I remember that the White Center Safeway, now the DSHS office, was one of the last superstores built with the "Circle S" logo...

Re: Searstown shopping centers
While I not visited Alaska yet, I know that there is a mall in Anchorage that is still functioning called, "The Mall at Sears". I am assuming that it has been around awhile. The font for the name, "Sears" is what was used for the corporate logo in the 1960's and '70's. Here is th...

Re: Sportsland and Sportswest
In fact, when Totem Lake Mall was opened, most of the major stores were Pay 'n Save brands. These included a Pay 'n Save drugstore, Lamonts, Sportswest and a Schuck's Auto Supply in the parking lot (which is still there.) The Pay 'n Save store eventually became a Payless, then a Rite Aid, then move...
