Re: Non-Safeway Marina-style stores
Justin Karimzad referred earlier in this message string to the Food Bowl on McKee Road in San Jose, Calif. There are 1950s or '60s photos of this supermarket on Calisphere: http://content.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/kt667nf3pf/ http://content.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/kt1m3nf279/ http://content.cdlib.org/ark:/...

QFI, Cala Foods, Bell Markets (all the ex-Yucaipa/Ralphs-operated chains in the SF Bay Area) - went to the QFI in South San Francisco when it was that and later Bell Market; went to the Cala locations in Daly City (Skyline Plaza - now 99 Ranch Market; Mission Street - originally was a Bell Market) a...

Re: Possible Safeway?
Found proof that this was a Safeway back in 1959! (The rock faced walls on the front exterior were the other hint)

The shopping center and area look so modern on Google Street View I would have never guessed it was 1950s-era.

Re: Carpenteria Vons (Marina Safeway) sold to Haggen
To answer the latter, both Albertsons and Safeway are affected (though notably there are very few divestitures in Northern California).517634 wrote:So this is the official list huh...
Any idea on when this will all happen? Also is Albertsons divesting any stores, or is it just Safeway?

Carpenteria Vons (Marina Safeway) sold to Haggen
As part of the Safeway/Albertsons merger, this Marina in Carpenteria is being sold to the Haggen chain:

What era is this Safeway lettering from? (Casper, Wyoming)
While looking up some of the Safeway locations that are slated to be sold to Haggen, I found this one in Casper, WY:
https://goo.gl/maps/OzrwH
It seems to be a compressed version of the font used in the late-70s/early-80s (before the switchover to the square S).

Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream
From everything that I've seen (at least in California), the only Rite-Aids with an ice cream counter are converted Thrifty's. PayLess never had them, and Rite-Aid never went to the trouble and expense of putting them in where they didn't already exist. I know of at least two newer Rite Aids from t...

Millbrae Marina replaced with new lifestyle Safeway
This happened late last year/earlier this year but I hadn't posted about it yet. New store has ground floor parking/second floor supermarket space, and the mural that adorned the older building was relocated elsewhere in the structure.
