I think you're on target with the sellout to BiLo due to Kroger being cash strapped.Essentially Charlotte was the base of the Carolinas KMA which covered stores in North Carolina, most of South Carolina, and Savannah, GA. South Carolina Kroger stores in Anderson, North Augusta, and Aiken were part o...

Mission architecture would be more appropriate for Southern California. Kroger superstores and greenhouse stores use roughly the same layout- entrance foyer, front end, perishible in the perimeter-- produce then floral and bread down the side, with seafood and meat accross the back and dairy in the r...

I would be neat to find a superstore or greenhouse in Southern California. My guess is superstores would be more likely than ...

I never knew where the Greenville or Spartanburg Family Marts were located. I had an old A&P ad that gave the addresses, but can no longer find it. A&P had 3 Family Marts in Georgia-Albany(Dawson Blvd), Warner Robins(Houston Rd) and Columbus(Airport Thruway). There was also 2 Family Marts in...

The location is almost across from the Galleria center which houses a mid-80's greenhouse Kroger Sav-on. IIRC, this was an A&P Futurestore which opened in the late-80's, the only Futurestore prototype in South Carolina. The Carolinas A&P division closed before the Atlanta division and this l...

Kroger briefly sold Cost Cutter beer in the early-80's in the plain yellow can and black print. I was underage when it was available, though honestly it was not on my list of must-have alcoholic beverages at that point.

The Ansley Mall Publix is a reconstruct of the previous store, originally Kroger then Big Star and A&P. Big Star, under Grand Union, did a thorouhg remodel of the Kroger into Grand Union decor and layout and its origins as Kroger were visually obscured. A&P did little cosmetic change other t...
