Does that dairy look like a 7-11 beverage vault to anyone else?

I also forgot to mention that we had two of these in Reno and Sparks, NV up until about 2000. Both were longtime locations from the 60's and had the award of being the first pizza place in town. The locations were interesting inside, but very run down. I don't think they had ever remodeled. They cha...

Kings Discount of Idaho is still in business. I was in the one in Winnemucca, NV a couple years ago. It appears to be their only location in Nevada, although I sometimes wonder if they were not in Elko or Wendover in the past. Weird store. Very similar to a Woolworths, even had a basement with some ...

I remember Albertsons "We think like you do" back in the later 80's. On a side note to the "think big" I see such signage at Smiths advertising their "colossal" bakery and deli items (which are limited to roasted chicken, and some kind of chicken pot pies which are sold...

I'm also thinking East Stanley in Livermore for a combo... present Nob Hill/Rite Aid center.

Not sure when that Sunrise/Colma Albertsons came to be. What grocer was at Sunrise and Winding? Was that an Albertsons?

I thought of a few more:

Watt/Elkhorn, North Highlands. RAD is still open. Albertsons closed as Ralphs in mid 2005.

Folsom/Zinfandel, Rancho Cordova. RAD closed in 1999. Albertsons is long closed and is now a Ross. Similar L set up to Woodland.

I may be thinking of the wrong store but I think the Wilson Way S-Mart closed. It still had the old Albertsons interior and was rather run down inside with many cracked tiles around the perimeter departments, lots of old refrigeration, etc. Were there any of these combos in Fresno? Also wasn't there...

I forgot to mention that. The Pak N Saves no longer do that "two pack" milk promo like the Safeways do. So basically, for Dairy Glen milk, you will pay 2.99/gallon at PNS but at a normal Safeway you'd get two gallons for around 3.59-4.29 depending on what the milkfat content is. For those ...

If you want my honest opinion of why Pak N Save exists, it is this: The Pak N Saves are on a lower wage contract than the normal Safeways. I don't know the specifics, but apparantly the base wages are lower and they also have different job duties for some of the employees (I don't know the details)....

They also just closed a sharp looking Pak N Save in San Jose that appears to have been built in 1996. Probably the last new Pak N Save.

They did remodel most of the stores. They also closed quite a few stores they had remodeled (2 in Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Livermore, Granite Bay) prior to now. The four stores left that were not remodeled (Capitola, Auburn, Santa Rosa, Orangevale) along with Grass Valley (remodeled, higher volum...

Auburn Ralphs

I took some pictures. Nobody questioned me. Amazing. A little trickier in Roseville, so fewer photos of that one.

The Lucky/Sav-On look was a lot better than Albertsons current remodel decor. That isn't exactly saying much, either.

We can't complain too much until they remodel downtown Petaluma.

Longs is California based. They have grown mainly organically. Strongholds are NorCal and Hawaii. Presence in other markets including NV, CO, WA, and OR is poor. They exited Arizona and Alaska in the 90's. Later in the 90's, they expanded into Oregon and Washington by purchasing the Drug Emporium fr...
