Re: Vidalia, Georgia Piggly Wiggly Marina-style store

I have an update for the 1960 Piggly Wiggly in Vidalia Georgia. The property has been renovated by a local church still leaving a hint of the old "marina" style appearance. Here are my recent photos. The front parking lot was closed off. So the photos were taken from the street. http://edr...

Former Centennial A&P's in Queens, NY

So many former A&P stores, very little time to find them. I think at one point you only needed to walk a few blocks in most parts of Queens to find an A&P store. There were many "centennial" types and lookalikes as well. This is just a few examples that I know personally. Northern ...

Is it possible that the Pleasantville store was an A+P at one time? I see the coupala and that roof where the signage is and it makes me wonder. I went to school in Pleasantville in 1980, 81 and early 82. As far as I know, this was always a Grand Union. Actually, there was an A&P just outside P...

Waldbaums, Queens NY (Corrected and added Photos)

I finally made a visit to New York since I discovered Groceteria and while in New York I snapped as many photos as possible during my runaround in the area. I lived in New York in the early 1980's and had relatives there while growing up. This post is for WALDBAUMS, a former supermarket chain of its...

Re: Save-Rite

While I know there are no more Save-Rite stores in Georgia, to the casual observer, there are. When the stores closed, it seems as if they simply turned off the lights and went home. Several of the stores still have their signage intact, both on the front of the store, and on pylon signs next to th...

8/15 This former Eckerd in Albany Georgia (East Oglethorpe Blvd) had its sinage changed only on one side of the building. The Eckerd oval sign was removed completely on both sides. The new RITE AID sign here is not contained in the oval. http://www.edricfloyd.com/DSCN4595.JPG This store sits just a ...

I already posted a photo of a more vintage Eckerd Drugs location in Fitzgerald Georgia. Here is the same location in a more recent photo. It is still open and will convert to Rite Aid. http://www.edricfloyd.com/fitzgeraldEckerd.JPG http://www.edricfloyd.com/fitzgeraldeckerdsign.JPG http://www.edricf...

Eckerd to Rite Aid conversions have begun in my immediate area with one on State Route 30 in Amsterdam being the first that I know of. I have only seen one conversion so far. In Griffin Georgia. The "conversion" simply changed the old Eckerd sign to Rite Aid. Compare "before" lo...

BTW.....the Walgreens in Ft. Lauderdale is much newer than that. There is a store behind it that was a Walgreens and now a liquor store. Are you thinking about that one? The new Publix and Walgreens were erected within a few months of each other (2005?). I remember the older Walgreens which was bui...
