McDonald's in non-Walmart stores

McDonald's has definitely had stores in Wal-Mart in the past and present, but like Starbucks, it's been in other stores too. Exactly how many is the question, though, and I've compiled a list of other stores where it's been... Farmer Jack (the "Michigan Former Fast Food" list mentions it o...

Re: Albertsons Lawn and Garden Centers

I read an article that indicated that the Baton Rouge stores were in fact part of the Houston division, which means that they were transferred to the Dallas division after the Houston division imploded. It also brings questions about the Bryan-College Station stores--they had two operating by 2001 w...

Re: "Albertsons Market"

Yeah, the Albertsons Market page was relaunched for the United division of Albertsons, which compared to the old Albertsons Inc. of old plays fast and loose, carrying differentiated product mixes to stores. Its worth noting that I remember reading that when United took over some NM stores, they drop...

Re: "Albertsons Market"

Exactly. It definitely well pre-dates the Cerberus spin-off and the desire to brand the stores as "Albertsons Market" anyway, and it's a completely different font as well, meaning that Albertsons LLC (probably) didn't go grubbing through defunct trademarks to name it as such. One thing tha...

Re: Modern Kroger designs in Marietta

Further digging: - It actually opened in May 1993 (wasn't that the same month as the Jewel-Osco concept?) - Address is 10945 State Bridge Road (Jones Bridge and State Bridge) - Interior décor was exposed HVAC, painted dark green with splashes of neon - It's probably obviously been renovated since, b...

Re: When/how did Kroger "conquer" the South?

Kroger's Houston domination included picking up a number of old Albertsons when they pulled out in '02, but the same dominance isn't replicated elsewhere. A few Krogers are smattered outside the Houston area but beyond College Station-Bryan and Huntsville, that's it--nothing in S.A. anymore, nothing...

Re: "Albertsons Market"

The Albertsons Market signage and décor was unique to Albertsons LLC prior to the buyback of New Albertsons (of which the AlbertsonsMarket.com name was retired until being revived for United Family owned Albertsons stores), but any Idaho stores would've been New Albertsons, which was part of SVU fro...

Re: 95k Jewel-Osco, Orland Park

Well, Jewel-Osco did buy some Dominick's which were formerly Omni stores...a suspiciously large store at 2550 North Clybourne has been confirmed to be an old Omni . The Omni that bought Auchan in Chicago was demolished several years back, dunno if it ever became Dominick's. The fact that the adjacen...

Re: 95k Jewel-Osco, Orland Park

It seems to be that the location is 9350 W 159th St. Cook County Appraisals Office certainly seems to support this, saying that the building is 22 years old, classificiation supermarket. (Pin: 27-15-301-033-0000)

Well, that was fun. Never knew that Jewel-Osco stores got that big!

95k Jewel-Osco, Orland Park

Everyone's heard of the Jewel-Osco Grand Bazaars here (hopefully), but what happened to the 95k square foot Jewel-Osco in Orland Park? I found an article in Supermarket News that refers to an experimental Jewel-Osco that opened in May 1993 in Orland Park that featured expanded variety in all departm...

Re: Modern Kroger designs in Marietta

Correction: 1994, not 1996. But the renovation page referred to a "25 year old Kroger", so either the 1994 one was NOT the one renovated (in 2006, it would've been 12) and they renovated a Greenhouse (fantastic work if so--other Greenhouses haven't been nearly as lucky) or they've got the ...

Re: Modern Kroger designs in Marietta

The Alpharetta Kroger was indeed experimental (google it with "Supermarket News")--it opened in 1996 as a 96k square foot store (that's huge for a regular Kroger) with a food court and a few other features, like an area with warehouse shelving. I don't know what it's like now. What was the...

I did some re-confirming that there wasn't anything there until Ralphs, and Hi Nabor was never there.

Re: Baton Rouge supermarkets

I think you were right about Hi Nabor after all. I asked my mother about it, and she said it was a Hi Nabor--obviously where I got the idea from, but then continued to say that my cousin "K" worked there, presumably in high school. I have no doubt that "K" did work at Hi Nabor, b...

Re: Kroger Family Centers

The old Houston and Dallas Divisions (Now the Southwest Division) used pretty much this numbering system. There is a few crossovers and stores numbered out of the system, but they are few. The old Houston Division was 034, and stores were HP-997. HP standing for Henke Pillot. Dallas was 035, and I ...
