Jewel-Osco interiors?
Has anyone ever catalogued old Jewel-Osco interiors? They've been on a recent remodeling binge with the current Albertsons LLC décor set, and obviously post-1999 they would have Albertsons or SuperValu interiors (PF&E, "Marketplace", Grocery Palace/"Theme Park", etc.) but wha...

Re: Kroger Family Centers
The College Station location at Texas Avenue is a 900-series store, it was called the "Kroger Family Center" for years but never came to be and was basically built as a Greenhouse...I think I read that it was supposed to be a full Family Center but switched at the last minute to a traditio...

Re: Possible ex-Kroger
The original Greenhouse FM 1960/Jones Road Kroger was likely built in '77, not '83, because I think I've noticed that older greenhouse walls "curved" out to the greenhouse part instead of having normal 90° points like later ones do. The '77 opening date is backed up by a comment on this bl...

Re: The ever shrinking Winn-Dixie
Anyone know the late 2014 closures? I wonder which stores in La. they're closing. According to what I heard, there was only one in Louisiana, but its location was never fully disclosed. I'd suspect either a rural store (there aren't many of those left) or one in Baton Rouge. From some Internet sear...

Re: Hinky Dinky and their leased grocery departments
So all things being true, "Supermarkets International" was a division of Hinky Dinky sold to JCPenney in 1969 and shut down a few years later. By 1972, Hinky Dinky would become a division itself when it was bought by Cullum Cos., who, according to Wikipedia, basically ran them to fuel grow...

Re: Pre-1980s Randalls stores
Not really. The logo was rather generic, and there's a video linked somewhere from one of these Texas archive sites of a 1970s era Randalls. It wasn't particularly special, ugly block-letter logo, brown brick building...Randalls was only established in the mid-1960s, which is much newer (comparative...

Re: Eagle Supermarkets in Houston
The H-E-B Pantry stores were a mishmash of previous generation stores. I think that the list included Lewis & Coker and Safeway/AppleTree among them. Probably some Minimaxes as well. A few were new-builds.

Re: Safeway at Richey and Bammel Rds, Houston
I think there were a few more Safeways built after that. There's one that's a Kroger now that strongly resembles (brown brick, same style entrance) the Village Foods in Bryan (1988? Safeway), and I know I saw at least one article from 1988 about a new Safeway in Houston, around the time Auchan was o...

Re: Possible ex-Kroger
Someone on Wikimapia called "burntheoil" (it may have been one of you guys, I dunno) made this description, which largely remains intact: "This store was built as a Kroger in 1983. Kroger relocated in 1993 and this one became a MacFrugal's, a chain acquired by Big Lots in 2002."

Willis replaced the store across the highway, which was an Albertsons.

Re: Albertsons Lawn and Garden Centers
Yeah, the Family Centers clearly weren't THAT much of a disaster since I know of at least one store (Bryan) that kept its Family Center assortment into 1985. As for clothes in Kroger, I've read that for all the new Kroger Marketplace stores that have apparel departments, that is still chosen by Fred...

According to Wikipedia (which hasn't seen much updates since Dominick's went under), the Clybourn Avenue store was the last Omni open as a Dominick's.

Re: Fresh & Easy's new Smarter Store
Can't believe F&E's still around. They made all the wrong choices, insisted on certain things (can't remember exactly, but distribution was expensive), had odd merchandise mixes (herbs on lamb chops but no Oreos, etc.), and were generally a disappointment. Probably would've been better by buying...

Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream
According to Tiger Droppings, K&B's ice cream was made at their distribution facility in Elmwood facility. The Rite Aid brand ice cream isn't the same thing. (I know, I know--your post was made over 7 years ago)
