Re: Safeway With Pylon Tower! Denver,CO

IIRC, I haven't seen a photo of it in a while, but I recall a green-pylon Safeway still in operation in metro Denver as well.

Late 1950s Safeway (marina?) in North Beach San Francisco?

Just saw this posted on Flickr yesterday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/walkingsf/4611145528/ The photo is from 1982, and the building doesn't exist anymore (I drove by that intersection a few times this month) - architecture looks to be rather similar to the recently replaced marina Safeway that was...

Re: Recently closed marina Safeway in Olympia

Just saw this on Flickr: a photo of the original decor of this store, ca. 1962!

Re: Canada Safeways

The person behind all those Winnipeg Safeway photos has just put up several blog posts on the chain's architectural history in that locale:

it's funny, I went to the thrift store that was there about 3 years ago and purchased a few old LPs...a few months later it was that storage place!

Re: Re:

I thought Randalls has been owned by Safeway since at least around 1984. At that time, the Marina stores started closing, while more Randalls were popping up. Lots of former Safeways in Houston became Randalls in 1988. How was it that the Southern California Safeways became Vons and not the other w...

Sacramento pylon Safeway - anyone know where this one is?

Saw this vintage shot on Flickr from someone who moved from town when he was 1 (the photo is from his parents' collection) - http://www.flickr.com/photos/23218266@N06/3836427547/ My first guess is that it is the location on Franklin Boulevard that burned down in '63 and was replaced with a gable (th...

Re: Ellensburg WA Safeway 1965 Open

Pretty interesting to see a marina replace a gable (if that's what I'm seeing) - how often did same-generation Saefway buildings replace each other?

Re: Macy's Zipper Store In Stockton, California

Here is a link to a photo. It's got the 'new' logo, and from the cars you can tell it's a recent photo. To the best of my knowledge, it's the only one designed like this. The other mid 60's Macy's CA stores in Sacramento (1963), Concord (67) and Daly City (68) all look similar to each other, but no...

Re: Former IHOP locations

San Bruno still has an active "cottage" location on El Camino Real, while the Arden-Arcade area in Sacramento (at Watt/El Camino) has one that has been closed for about a year or two.

Re: Safeway-Oakland, Calif-3747 Grand Avenue

Thinking of old Oakland Safeways now, I checked Goole street view and see that the Claremont Ave. Safeway in Oakland is now closed. When did that happen? I always thought it was cool to see such a vintage store active in a relatively well-off area. Oh well, glad all of us are out there documenting ...
