Re: Info about Giant Mart???
I forgot to mention that the only grocery store I know of in Woodbury is the Ingles located on the Northeast edge of town. I can't even think of anything in Woodbury that even resembles a former supermarket.

Re: Info about Giant Mart???
I work and travel through these very areas quite frequently. I am guessing that the current Piggly Wiggly stores in Manchester, Jackson, Talbotton and Roberta may have been Giant marts. Let me add Greenville Georgia. All of these stores fit the description and all of them have a simular color scheme...

I do remember Food Fair before becoming Pantry Pride. That photo reminds me of many older shopping cent...

Re: Colonial/Big Star Dawson, Georgia
I assume this would be the current Harvey's market in Downtown Dawson. It is one of the oldest supermarket buildings in town, the other one being a tiny former A&P on the same street several blocks north.

Re: Food Lion divisions
The status of Harvey's appears to be both use of a local name over Food Lion as well as contractual. The private label at Harvey's appears to be SuperValu and the website is still reflective of a small rural chain. Living close to Harvey's home territory I can tell you that in recent years, there w...

Re: Car dealerships inside former mall anchor spaces
I have seen car showrooms in dealerships before. Not so much in former anchor spaces but satalite offices with a few cars on display and demos in the parking lot. Back home in South Florida there was a Cadillac showroom inside the Galleria in Fort Lauderdale. It was a Bayview Cadillac (Ed Morse) Sho...

Re: Re:
While I'm at it, I'll also post a picture of a store I'm 95% certain was a Safeway at the junction of East Tremont and the Cross Bronx Expressway in Throg's Neck. It's some kind of clothing store now. Anyone know about it? I remember that store was a FINAST in the very early 1980's. It closed aroun...

Re: C-Town Stores Website
The former Finast in Jackson Heights Queens was a C-Town supermarket in the 1980's. I mentioned that store in another thread after my road trip to the area last October http://www.groceteria.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2079 I lived in Queens from 1980-1986 and returned to my home of South Flo...

Re: Old Winn Dixie(?) in Key West FL
There were no Grand Unions nor A&P's in Key West. (My memory goes back to the early 1970's) Key West's grocery options were somewhat limited for years. The first Publix in the keys opened in the early 1990's as Pantry Pride was fading away. I was surprised it took Publix so long. Winn-Dixie had ...

Re: Macon Georgia area History (Piggly Wiggly)
The former PIGGLY WIGGLY at Eisenhower Parkway and Pio Nono Avenue in Macon Georgia. Showing minor damage from a tornado that hit the area on 5/11/2008. It is the least of the local damage. A Tire store next door was destroyed and a vacant former Home Depot (across the street) and the oldest origina...

Re: Kroger Family Centers
Looking at the Kroger gallery on this site, I noticed the same architecture on Sterling, IL, altered using a greenhouse era exterior sign. I'm assuming the store has downsized and no longer uses the full footprint. Kroger's website lists hours of operation 6 am to 11 pm, and does not have a pharmac...

Former Kroger/Super X Albany Georgia
As mentioned in another thread, this is the former Kroger/Super X Drug location on Sylvester Road in Albany Georgia that is currently a Harvey's Supermarket. This was a Kroger until 1986 and Harvey's moved into the building in the 1990's http://www.edricfloyd.com/dscn0814_resize.jpg http://www.edric...

Re: "DISCO KROGER" to change formats.
Thanks for linking that photo! It never would have crossed my mind that they would actually have a disco ball IN the store. A great symbol of the store's legacy in the neighborhood. I have never been inside that store although I have a favorate restaurant on that corner that I have been to several t...
