I believe I have also seen (at least pictures) of carts where the numbered part had 2 pieces.
One piece would slide out and be given to the customer, who would then hand it back upon returning with their car to pick up the items.
Same idea, just a different way of doing it.

On the right side of the building was the entrance and maybe someone can help me on this since I never heard it mentioned, but if you notice also to the right there is a retaining wall between the building and the adjoining property. The space between the wall and the building was nowhere near enou...

This is one picture of the abandoned HOJO next door to where I work. It's been closed for over 20 years. You can see bits of orange peeking out under the blue paint of the restaurant area. This hotel also had a Red Coach Grill on the top floor. Let me guess - there must be something off to the righ...

I know that there was one (lonely) Eckerd in Bennington, VT which closed well before the Brooks take over of Eckerd - not sure if they ever got further into New England. There were also several Brooks years ago in the Albany (NY) area (eventually became Revco and then CVS) and were until more recent...

Here's something that occurred to me when this merger was announced and I wonder what's going to happen. Gloversville, NY is a smaller city near where I live and in the late '90's both Rite-Aid and Eckerd built brand new stores right across the street from each other which still operate to this day...

Off topic, my brother and his family lived in Belgium for six months and were surprised to see that FL's parent co. Delhaize uses the FL lion logo (using a different color scheme) for its stores. Actually, it's the other way around. When Delhaize got involved with Food Lion (which was Food Town at ...

There was one in Hudson (or Greenport actually, just outside the city)NY also - this one also became Kings and later Ames, and remained an Ames until they shut the chain down. Now, part is Peebles, part is a Yankee $1 store and part is still empty (including an auto center, which dates back to Barke...

I believe one of the Roast Beef chains - Arbys I think?
It was supposed to look like a covered wagon.
[quote="TheStranger"]Arden Way just west of Fulton (which would actually be in unincorporated Arden-Arcade). I'm not sure what this one is...it's in what's now a used-car lot.

If memory serves me correctly, wasn't the Mohawk Mall PC originally a Pantry Pride? Matter of fact, I think it was part of a J. M. Fields combo with the J. M. Fields later becoming a Bradlee's. As for CCM, wasn't that store originally an A+P? Not sure - that must be earlier than I remember. The Moh...

Re: A&P in New York State
I grew up in New York, and I remember that, at one time, there was an A&P almost everywhere. It was another way of saying "the store"; "I'm going to the A&P". When I moved to upstate NY in the 70's, all of the stores up there were either closed or preparing to do so. The...

Re: Great American Stores Upstate NY
Many of them have closed over the years, some due to a bankruptcy in one of the ownerships, others due to competition. There are still some left, including Afton, Bainbridge, Boonville, Bridgeport, Cairo, Cooperstown, Delhi, Fonda, Greene, Liberty, Lyons Falls, Oxford, Prattsville, Richfield Springs...

Re: 1985 movie: "The Stuff"
Any ideas on what chain this was? The logo on the aisle hanger looks like it might be a Shop Rite logo, but it's so far away and tiny it's hard to be certain. The font on the wall lettering, however, looks similar to what was used at a Piggly Wiggly I frequented in Florida. Since the movie was supp...
