Re: West Covina CA
The original tenant of the Glendora / Vine site was a rather bland Shopping Bag. It was torn down to build the Ralphs Shopping Center. Does anyone remember Flakey Jakes at the Glendora / Vine site? Was similar to Fuddruckers. Back to the Shopping Bag (without the giant sign wall), I remember it had ...

Marvin's Market - Baldwin Park, California
Does anyone remember Marvin's Market? This location on Puente / Francisquito started out as an Alexander's Market. It endured for years as Tom-Sons Market. Between the Alexander's and Tom-Sons era, there was a unique incarnation...Marvin's Market. Their weekly ads featured an humorous font with a ca...

Re: Mystery ex-grocery store in La Puente
Since I grew up in La Puente, I can list a couple of names from the 70's and 80's... My earliest memory of this "mystery" store is the "HOT" sign in your pictures. This is referring to the HOT bakery inside "Buy-Fair". Sometime in the early 70's, "Buy-Fair" ev...

Kmart/SCOA West Covina
Split by moderator from this topic . As I grew up in the West Covina area, I know the history of this KMart.....the original tenant was called "SCOA" (late 1960's). Then it became "Save-Co" (early 1970's).....later Cal Stores (mid 1970's).......and finally KMart (1977 or 1978). ...

Re: West Covina area grocery history
The Hughes location you refer to....the Hacienda Blvd / south of Amar Road shopping center in La Puente.....actually opened as a brand new Market Basket. The three major tenants were Market Basket, Sav-On Drug Store, and Pic-N-Save. That is my favorite intersection....one of the remaining original I...

Re: Shopping Bag Food Stores In Southern California
The "drawing" is from the LA Public Library, stating that this drawing is from the Stonewood Shopping Center in Downey. As far as the La Puente SB location goes, Fazio's went out of business. I don't know about any other locations, but I can confirm that Fazio's went out of business in La ...

Shopping Bag Food Stores In Southern California
I finally found a "drawing" of what I remember these supermarkets looking like... The one near where I grew up (corner of Hacienda Blvd and Amar Road in La Puente, CA) evolved into a "E.F. Mac Donald's Shopping Bag Ranch Market" (with cute animated "Hee Haw" type charac...
