Re: Straggling post-1980s appearances of the Safeway Circle-S logo

I remember a number of products still having the circle S logo in the early 90s. Spices and some dairy products were among them. Another thing I remembered about the same time was that they came out with a new Cragmont logo, which did not last long, maybe a year or two at the most, until the Safeway ...

1977 Sears Singer-Friden register footage

This video is from the Vampire Robot YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOAv9s1u0qY Most of it is a family in 1977 shopping at Sears, but at points you can hear the printer of the Singer-Friden cash registers in the background, and at the very end you can see the Singer register in use ...

Re: NEW: Vancouver WA, 1928-2000

Thanks. These are updated. The Padden Pkwy location did not make the list because it was apparently only open between about 2003 and 2007, which was outside the range of the list. But I have added a note about it. The Padden Parkway store actually closed in 2014, at the same time as the Albertsons ...

One that comes to mind is Kienow's in Portland, Oregon.

Re: NEW: Vancouver WA, 1928-2000

The Albertsons at 11505 NE Mill Plain should actually be 11505 NE 4th Plain. This store was replaced by the Padden Parkway Albertsons location (also closed), the address of that one is 8300 NE 137th Avenue (which I do not see on the list) The Albertsons at 14300 NE 20th Ave (Salmon Creek) rebranded ...

Re: If you could bring a defunct store back.....

Don't forget J.M. Fields 😉 OR Ames, Bradlees, Caldor, Ann & Hope, Kings, Barkers, Jamesway and probably a few more. Even something like the original Roses (which still exists but may not be quite what it was years ago). Only makes sense that it is harder for any one person to make a complete list of ...

Re: If you could bring a defunct store back.....

The biggest problem with Kmart was that once they really took off, nobody else existed to them until around the time that Walmart passed them in sales. Because of that, they could get away with poor house brands and dumpy little stores that all looked exactly alike. I remember the first time I went ...

1991 Sears NCR register footage

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XYxHiuQu4Q

This video shows two versions of NCR registers (2152 and 7052) used by Sears in 1991, and toward the end a barcode pen is being used instead of a scanning gun. It appears this is some kind of old raw news video. Times sure have changed.

Re: Rite Aids with Pay 'n Save interiors

I realize this is an old thread, but I wonder if any of these are left? Rite Aid has been stepping up remodels on many of the older stores. That store in Kent on Pacific Highway South (if it is the same one mentioned earlier in this thread) appears to have closed, and now has some pretty stout ...

Re: Lee's Discount Department Stores?

Britt's stores were interchangeable with the "junior department stores" Newberry opened under their own name from the late 50s onward. The Britt's name usually was used where Newberry had no existing identity, although there were oddities like the downtown Birmingham Newberry's--a large store that ...

Re: Kmart checkouts over the years

The Vintage Point Of Sale Site has an article about these registers. It appears that the Kmart Canada registers were made by ICL: https://vintagepointofsale.com/2022/10/30/kmart-canada-2/ Something worth noting. While I am not 100% sure these are the exact registers, they do look very similar to the ...

Re: Kmart checkouts over the years

Hello: This is a Kmart Canada register from the mid 80s until the late 90s. Me and another poster on here have been trying forever to figure out which Manufacturer and Model this is!!! Reply's on Kmart Canada Facebook heritage/memories pages have differing opinions. https://www.cbc.ca/archives/the ...

Re: Former Albertsons in Cheyenne, Wyoming

Some things throw me with this store. While the former Albertsons/Smiths/Nash Finch Econofoods was definitely in this shopping center, the floor does not look like an Albertsons floor. The walls also do not look like Albertsons walls. The other weird thing is the entryway, it has sliding doors ...

Re: Farmer Jack outside of Michigan & Ohio??

In the mid-1980s, as part of the Salt Lake division, they took over several remaining Safeway locations in several towns surrounding Boise, including a store in Ontario, Oregon. (I think this was the only Oregon store which was not part of the Portland division) Safeway by that point had left Boise ...

Re: Farmer Jack in Utah

Well, I was mostly asking about Salt Lake City. I'm pretty sure that Nampa and/or Caldwell were later sold to Paul's, an independent supermarket that Albertsons bought out in the mid-2010s. I'll have to check and see where they were and which ones closed. When SuperValu sold the Salt Lake City-area ...
