Re: shopping Center sw corner Central & Walnut-Chino
I finally spoke to someone that remembers. It was called Sprouse Reitz, later called Sprouse. There was one on Hacienda Blvd. not at Gale but just south of the 60 fwy. Before the retaining and sound wall was put up on the freeway you could see it from the 60 freeway.

Re: Sprouse Reitz
The remnants of what I thought was a Sprouse Reitz. You can see the old patio area where whatever it was sold plants outside. Did Gilberts carry plants? Maybe it was Gilberts before SR? This is located on the North West corner of Gale and Hacienda. I think there was a Thriftimart on the south east c...

Re: Intriguing SoCal chain: Superior Super Warehouse
Arrow and Citrus was Smith's Food King from the 1st run of Smith's in Southern CA. I know because I worked there when Superior took it over in 1981. It may have been a Food Giant before Smith's but I don't know on that one.

Re: Chino chain grocer update
The Rio Rancho in Chino on Riverside Drive was and independent (Certified Grocers, now Unified Western Grocers customer) called Valley Farms in the 70's and through the early 80's. I worked there a year before going to Superior and lived close by.

Re: Smith's Food King in Socal--with store locations
Regarding the Superior Warehouse Grocers (now Superior Grocers) (originally Frontier Grocers) on Arrow & Citrus in Covina, this was indeed a Smith's in the late 70's early 80's. I started working for Superior in March 1981, and the original store #1 for Superior was this location. It was located...

Re: Sprouse Reitz
I remember one in Chino on the southwest corner of Central and Walnut in the 80's. It is now divided up into several shops. I seem to remember one in the City of Industry at Hacienda and Gale. I'd appreciate any feedback on the accuracy of this.

Re: Old photo
Funny you mention that Safeway don't give a "Rats Ass" about their history. I notice when I visit other chains web sites that have been taken over by other companies, there is usually no mention about the company history that can be found on the web site. Another example would be to go to ...

Re: Intriguing SoCal chain: Superior Super Warehouse
Yes this store will open June 26 and will be the 31st store for Superior. I am a long time employee and very proud to work for Superior. There is much buzz in San Bernardino about this upcoming store. We will also open another store in Santa Ana on 6/12/08 on First St. This store has a very interest...

Re: Market Basket Locations
Update on the former Market Basket building in Chino. Superior sub leased it to Deardens (a furniture & appliance store that caters to Latinos). Superior has a store south of there on Central and Walnut that will remain. Mainly Superior got the building to get the Liquor License from Gigante.
