Re: Before and After Remodel Photos
In Des Moines, Albertsons never built a store. They took over the former SuperOne locations and remodeled them. They made the mistake of opening one across from the Hy-Vee at 86th & Douglas in Urbandale (busiest Hy-vee I've ever seen)
Albertsons lasted maybe 2 years in DSM.

And they still serve all the classic items. I really find that hard to believe. Pizza, Taco, and burrito snacks were discontinued in the mid/late 80's, and the last time I went to a kmart(about 2 years ago) they had the sub sandwiches, but they weren't the same. I cant imagine one store having thes...

His suit is the same color as that sectional! Why is he in a different outfit in every shot? There were some MW stores that looked a bit like that, but they were double doors and had windows. I'd say either it's been extensively remodeled, or it isn't a former MW. Judging by some of the shots we've...

The grandaddy of them all..Wal-Mart had scanners in its stores by 1984. They had started testing them at some stores and others didn't have the scanner but had the registers to support it. By the time 1987 came around Wal-Mart was almost all-scanning by then. I recall the early WMT scanners were NCR...

Well, Storewanderer has a pic of a Kmart in Sacramento that still has the old Kmart logo on it. There is reportedly one in Nebraska that also has the old logo on it too. Up until a couple years ago I knew of a Penneys in Missouri that had the OLD Penney's logo (the current one has been in use since ...

Food Barn, Kansas City (Former SWY Divison/Marina)
I've done some digging around and came up with this TV ad for a place called "Emmanuel's Mega Mart" at 35th and Prospect in KC, MO. The pics you see are screen grabs from the TV ad... http://www.knab.org/emmanuels/1.jpg http://www.knab.org/emmanuels/2.jpg http://www.knab.org/emmanuels/3.jp...

This brings up an interesting off-shoot of this thread (please feel free to split it as needed) We all know of Farmer Jack buying those Safeways in SLC, but what is the most bizarre move of a chain out of its home region y'all have ever seen? Also, didn't FJ attempt an expansion into Virginia and th...
