Re: Vintage Supermarkets in Movies and TV (Old Ones Only Please)
WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL remains one of my favorite films. My mom was a huge Doris Day fan and we own a lot of her films on DVD - My other personal favorite is LOVER COME BACK...

Re: Fuddruckers in Virginia, Maryland and DC
You're more than welcome, We used to live in Burke so the Annandale location was pretty much the closest one for us. Dad really loved the burgers and we ate there a lot in the mid-late 70's and early 80's until we moved out to western Loudoun County. Never ate at Red Robin, I know there's one in the...

Re: Vintage Supermarkets in Movies and TV (Old Ones Only Please)
In the original THE BLOB (1958) Steve McQueen's character's father owns a grocery store and he and his girlfriend get trapped in the store's freezer by the monster. We don't see a store name but given his father owned the store it was probably an independent. In both ADAM-12 (1968-75) and EMERGENCY ...

Fuddruckers in Virginia, Maryland and DC
As you may or may not know Luby's (who own Fuddruckers) were going to close both chains. They've been sold to Black Titan Enterprises, a franchisee who owns a number of restaurants. All stores were to have closed by now but at least for the time being this has been avoided. However, a large number o...

Re: A Grocery Story of Possible Interest
This article just doesn't tell the entire story. But first some background: My late mother loved a certain brand of Coffee Yogurt. The problem was it was usually not carried. My brother worked with one of the managers at Lowe's to make special orders for mom, and they became chums. The store was NOT...

Re: Original Jack in the Box sites
Didn't know that. So there was a least a small effort to obtain an east coast presence.

Here's a 2019 article on Grocery Store sales in Loudoun County: https://www.insidenova.com/news/loudoun/harris-teeter-giant-battle-for-top-spots-in-loudoun-grocery-market/article_4ca37a26-9da5-11e9-b7fd-0b2a9b4ce6ac.html Since this article was written Lidl opened a second store in Ashburn while Aldi...

Here's the link to the article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/business/1990/06/04/giant-safeway-still-dominate-regions-food-shopping/16677c4e-859f-4447-9ba2-3cadcd6483a5/ And thanks for the Thriftway article, that was "interesting" to say the least. Is there any followup as to wha...

A Little Help?
I found a 1990 WASHINGTON POST article about the top 10 grocers in the DC area (Giant and Safeway were #'s 1 and 2; surprise surprise!). Number 9 was Basics (3 stores) while Number 10 was Dayton/Mitchell Thriftways (also 3 stores). I've never heard of either. There's a post here that says Basics was...

Re: Weis in Northern VA
Thank you for that article, it was very informative. I'd plain forgotten Hechinger was there.
As an FYI the Shoppers Food Warehouse closed and is now a Dick's Sporting Goods.

Re: Weis in Northern VA
Are you sure that Lotte was Hechinger? I was always told that Lotte was originally Lowes. They closed the store. Then later came back and built the large store that is currently on the opposite side of the site. There was a gap, from what I've been told, between the old and new Lowes stores. I work...

Re: Weis in Northern VA
Sully Square was behind the area where Shoppers Food/Aldi is and is the smallest of the three. Mainly has a Bank of America, a Little Caesar's Pizza and a Midas Muffler plus a few other stores. Sully Square had the K-Mart and Weis plus the Hechinger's. The Hechinger's was a Lotte by 2014. Beatty Com...
