There was an (possibly) unrelated Kelly's Hamburgers in Michigan that had a location on Lafayette Boulevard at Trumbull in Detroit. The site is now a Burger King.

Re: Wyandotte, Lincoln Park and other Downriver burbs chain history
2023 listings added to both sheets, and 1956 has replaced 1958 on the Wyandotte sheet, thanks to me discovering about the existence of the 1956 Downriver city directory and several others between 1941 and 1962 at Haithitrust.
The sheets should be posted on Groceteria soon.

Re: Monroe, Michigan chain history
I was able to expand the listings back in time to 1919 and past 1959 thanks to directory scans of James Kirslis, who also runs an extensive website chronicling location lists of various Toledo-based chains, chiefly Seaway Food Town. This update reveals that A&P was the first chain grocer to set up ...

Re: The oldest Kroger store in operation?
16919 Kercheval Avenue in Grosse Pointe, Michigan is a definite contender. It's been continually in business since December 1940, and is still small (only 8 aisles!), despite many obvious updates across time.

Re: Target '90s neon
The Target in Taylor, MI remodeled from its original 1987 design (which featured red stripes on overhead signage and a red stripe band running across the interior walls) in 2001 to the white-red-blue-green neon and colored overhead signage. It had that look as late as its PFresh remodel in 2013. The ...

Pontiac, Michigan chain history
Last night I decided to again load up Ancestry.com's directory archive and did the city of Pontiac and neighboring municipalities to help further expand Groceteria's coverage of Metro Detroit: Pontiac, Auburn Heights/Hills, Keego Harbor, Sylvan Lake, Waterford, and Orchard Lake chain grocery ...

Re: Wyandotte, Lincoln Park and other Downriver burbs chain history
Once again, I have expanded the Wyandotte and Lincoln Park sheets from 1965 onward, and as before I've pieced it together through several history websites (including Downriver Locations Thru the Years and the Southgate Historical Foundation's excellent business history directory ), the Detroit Free ...

Monroe, Michigan chain history
Located halfway between Detroit and Toledo is a place for which I have created my newest chain history list: Monroe chain grocery/supermarket history (1919-2021) Yeah, this is just a period of a little over a decade, and this combined with the city's small size doesn't make this list too exciting ...

Re: Wyandotte, Lincoln Park and other Downriver burbs chain history
With some time that freed up for me today, I came home with a library card that I picked up from the Bacon Memorial District Library and redid the two spreadsheets based off of directories available on Ancestry. I was finally able to access 1940s-1950s directories for Wyandotte as well as several ...

Re: List of Detroit area Kroger stores in 1984
Apparently, according to one article mentioning the then-upcoming 70-store closure in July 1984, it mentioned that certain central Michigan stores would remain open since they were under a separate contract. These stores were presumably in the Lansing area, which is still in the Michigan Division ...

Re: "Kroger Premier"?
I know, five-year bump!, but I have been researching Kroger Premier for a little bit now, and I have discovered that there were actually more Kroger Premier locations in the past, and that it indeed was exclusive to the Michigan division. The other Kroger Premier locations: 3675 West Maple Road ...

Re: Disappearing Sizzlers in your area
The Taylor, Michigan location at Eureka and Racho near Southland Mall was my local Sizzler location. It opened in 1991, but became Mountain Jack's following the mid-90's closures. Mountain Jack's would itself last several years before sitting vacant for quite a while, until it was torn down in 2012 ...

Re: Wyandotte, Lincoln Park and other Downriver burbs chain history
Just found a Trenton Trib article which gives a brief history on grocery stores in Trenton. Through this, I discovered that A&P had briefly occupied the Chatham space at Trafford Square (3000 Van Horn) in 1990, obviously closing by 1994 and replaced by Seaway Food Town. The Wyandotte table has again ...

Re: Wyandotte, Lincoln Park and other Downriver burbs chain history
After a little bit of research, I was able to decipher some more information relating to 3901 Fort Street in Wyandotte. It was apparently rebranded, as with the entire Danny's chain, as Select IGA by 1999 (August 1, 1999 Westland Observer includes an ad for Select IGA). Select IGA lasted only two ...

Re: Wyandotte, Lincoln Park and other Downriver burbs chain history
I decided to make a few adjustments to both lists following a research of a 1975 Wyandotte directory at Bacon Memorial District Library today. This directory (or what I was able to go through with my limited time) listed three A&Ps (Riverview, 131 Elm and 3859 West Jefferson in Ecorse), the ...
