There’s a center bounded by 108th ave, 110th Ave, Main St and NE 2nd Sf that is being redeveloped into “Main Street Place”, a mixed use development with 1500 dwellings, 1MMft^2 of office space, ground level retail and dining, all spread over 6 buildings up to 16 floors, with a common subsurface park...

Re: Fred Meyer Warehouse Foods Stores
Roseburg had a Warehouse Foods in kind of an odd location at the east end of Garden Valley Boulevard that survived for a couple of years after the opening of the current mainline store several miles away. When the new store opened, the food section was also in the Warehouse Foods model: center-store...

Re: 1970 Independent Food Stores in Oregon
Hauke's in Astoria eventually moved from the 1970 location (at about 3100 Marine Drive) to one across the street and a couple of blocks away (3300 E. Marine Dr) ca. 1977ish. The new location was built without an in-store bakery (Home Baking was a few blocks away and excellent, and Danish Maid was an...

Re: Extinct Supermarket Merchandise
(1) When did "coffee cream" stop being sold as a Lucerne item? It seems to be "extinct" today. Ahh, coffee cream, AKA "light cream" - I think it's 20% fat, compared to whole milk at 4%, half-and-half at 12% and whipping cream starting at 30% and going to 44-46%. I have...

Re: Cub Foods in Washington State
I wouldn't swear to it in a court of law, but ca. 1984, I'm pretty sure that what is currently the TOP Foods in Everett near Everett Mall opened as a Cub Foods.

Re: SeaTac Mall/Commons at Federal Way
Lamonts rebranded to Gottschalks rapidly after the buyout, which would put the conversions mid-2000. The curlicue L was still in use at a few locations at that point; I'm not sure when they switched the the simplified cursive L, but I know none of the former F&N/Lipman's/Crescent locations (Vall...

Re: Old Fred Meyer Stores w/ Separate HI&GCs
The three Salem-area stores all had separate HI/GC to my memory, circa 1991. 2855 Broadway St NE / Keizer's was to the north edge of the parcel, where Dollar Tree is now. 3740 Market St NE / Lancaster, again, to my blurry memory, was also on the N side, but I can't recall if it's the NW or NE corner...

Re: If you could bring a defunct store back.....
That's sad. A store like that deserved to last forever and it kind of reminds me of the famed Wegmans stores in upstate New York and other areas and the Harris Teeter chain in the Southeast. when did they (D'Allesandro's) go belly up? I'd guess around 1985ish, give or take a year. Earlier than Smit...

Re: If you could bring a defunct store back.....
D'Allesandro's in Boise, no question. By far the best all-around grocer I've *ever* shopped, and that includes living in Portland, Austin and Seattle, cities that were (and, I maintain, still are) way more serious about food. I like their approach to sale circulars (post the competition's, mark ever...

There was a pretty early prototype on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy by the former Jafco-now-Uwajimaya parcel by the mid-70s.

Re: Classic Malls in Portland, OR Before 1980
At Eastport Plaza, there were three known restaurants outside of the mall, all of which I believe dated to 1979-1980, the period which the mall was updated: Izzy's Pizza (3846 SE 82nd Ave.) Izzy's wasn't in the Portland market yet - 79-80 would have been their first attempts at the Izzy's concept, ...

This may also explain the *extremely* odd/large QFC in Belfair, then, which, I swear, has no peer in the QFC pantheon - it's got a layout that could best be described as . . . "non-traditional".

Re: Extinct Supermarket Merchandise
I miss two freezer products. One I think might've been a Piggly-Wiggly exclusive: Viennese Ice Cream cake. It was so good. I wonder if this was a knockoff of Breyer's/Unilever "Vienetta" - a decorated loaf of ice cream and wafer-thin chocolate coating (like the shell of an eskimo pie, but...

Re: Falk's ID (Idaho)
Definitely not in Karcher ca 1978-1983. The layout of Karcher at that time (haven't been there in a gazillion years) was pretty limited in terms of anchor options - thus, Bon Marche at one end, JC Penney midfield and the grocery store at the other (or was Ernst/Malmo connected, and the grocery store...
