Re: Cool supermarket photos...
There are come cool old SoCal photos on this website. Mayfair Market fire at 17602 South Bellflower Boulevard in Bellflower, July 6, 1951. I love how big the logo was. The Mayfair Market I worked at in San Diego still had this logo, as did most of the others, in 1980. http://digarc.usc.edu/assetser...

Re: Vons Locations, 1967
Allow me to offer a correction to the Whittier Location: The grocery store in the Quad was an out building, not inline with the mall. The inline mall was demolished, meaning that the Ross building is new construction. The Ralphs location in this center was always a grocery store, but I don't have a ...

Re: Albertsons Hemet, CA closing.
This sounds identical to the Paramount, CA store closure. Some discussion about that is taking place on my flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/socalretail/2927098475/ Paramount is also a former Smiths turned Lucky then Albertsons. You mention Food4Less, in two other cases this has indeed happe...

Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream
All California Rite Aids sell Thrifty Ice Cream - prepacked and a service bar by the cashiers. As I thought as well. Yet, visited the Rite Aid @ 11890 Plaza Drive, San Juan Capistrano. It is an old PayLess Drug. NO ice cream served from the counter. They referred me to the Rite Aid across the stree...

Re: Brea CA
I have since read the report found at cityofbrea.net. Its huge. This project is about adding parking and stores to the east side of this parcel, boxing over a creek/drainage ditch. But it is the details that start to unravel the story. Starbucks, currently next to Borders gets a new outbuilding on t...

Re: Brea CA
Here's the kicker about that particular Rite Aid: it was very recently remodeled! Its a former Thrifty store sporting the newest Rite Aid interior -- doesn't make much sense, does it? Re: Liquor Barn locations in LA & OC, 1985
This list of Liquor Barn locations is from a display ad 7/4/1985 issue of the Los Angeles Times. It seems to incorporate all Los Angeles and Orange County locations, plus one in Ventura County. 10402 Rosecrans Ave, Bellflower--Attached to this Kmart? Re: Covina Ralphs (Former Alpha Beta) to close May 18
Interior photography is somewhat of an art. You have to have the right tools (I use a cellphone, another friend uses a real camera) and you have to know how to get shots off, while keeping from looking too creepy. One helpful hint: if you have merchandise in your cart, they are less likely to bug yo...

Re: Covina Ralphs (Former Alpha Beta) to close May 18
I made it out to Covina today. Yes, there is a labelscar visible. It is from the post-Lucky merger Alpha Beta (when Alpha Beta was part of the Yucaipa Cos.) I'm sure it will become more visible when the oval is removed: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2006/2472835164_c9695271f1_m.jpg http://www.flick...

Cripe I need to revisit this place. If you didn't click the link in Storewanderer's message, the exterior looks like: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2418/2259069976_3ef09a4cfa_m.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/socalretail/2259069976/ The story about this day: I skipped photographing the interior on...
