Re: Middletown NY Stores
The Shoprite on Dolson Avenue is undergoing a major expansion. The former Rite-Aid location next to it in the plaza has been torn down and Shoprite will be expanding into that area. I know that a sushi bar is part of the planned expansion, along with a redesigned parking lot (which is so desperately...

Re: Acme in New York
There was an Acme in Middletown, NY on East Main Street. I don't know when it closed. The building is currently occupied by a Family Dollar and Advance Auto Parts.

Re: Redner's Warehouse Market in Middletown, NY is Closing
According to "The Weis Project", the Weis Supermarket at the Newburgh Mall is now Bed, Bath, & Beyond. http://www.weisproject.com/past_detail.php?num=7 Weis was located just to the left of the main entrance to the mall and was a stand alone store. Also, Weis was one of the original te...

Re: Redner's Warehouse Market in Middletown, NY is Closing
Hi, Weis had a store in Newburgh of of route 84 near the Mall for a lot of years. It was a low volume store and I can!t imagine that they would come back into this market. Redners opened the Middletown store because on of the brothers that manage the company had a summer home near by. Sadly he pass...

Redner's Warehouse Market in Middletown, NY is Closing
Redner's Warehouse Market on Dolson Avenue, formerly occupied by Waldbaum's, is closing. My mom was in there a couple of days ago and all of the freezers are shut off, many of the overhead lights are shut off, and many areas of the store are blocked off. It seems like it was a pretty quick decision ...

I just saw that a couple of weeks ago. How terrible. I'm so glad that I went and took pictures when I did.

Grand Union - Matamoras, PA
I took a little trip today to the old/abandoned Grand Union in Matamoras, PA. I don't know when exactly it closed, but it's been a few years. The sign is still on the building and on the plaza's entrance/road sign. Lucky for me, they keep the tarps off one set of windows and keep a set of lights on,...

Re: Grand Union Plaza - Goshen, NY
I'll be going to take pictures of the Grand Union in Matamoras, PA soon, hopefully. The letters are still up on the building and the interior wall decor is still up. The windows are covered over with black tarps, but sometimes they fall down and you can see inside. I remember going to the Grand Unio...

Grand Union Plaza - Goshen, NY
The Times Herald Record ran an article today about the status of the Grand Union plaza in Goshen. It isn't doing too well, which I already knew. Here's a scan of the article along with a picture that I took of the Grand Union building about a year ago (it's a CVS now; Grand Union closed in 2001 acco...

I live in Middletown, NY and while we didn't have a Grand Union in town, there was one in Goshen, and one in Matamoras, PA. The one in Goshen is now a CVS, and the one in Matamoras is still intact, interior decorating (wall labels, etc) and all. I've been meaning to go take pictures through the wind...

Yes, it probably is the same restaurant. Lee's Famous Recipe Fried Chicken had locations in Monroe, Chester, and Middletown, NY back in the early 1980's. The location in Monroe was in the Shop Rite Plaza on NY 17M (not a freestanding location, but situated within a strip of stores across from Shop ...

We had both a Caldor and a Bradlees here in Middletown, NY. Caldor is still sitting there vacant with nothing but Colandrea Pizza in the far end of the plaza and a dentist in the inside foyer (so you can actually go right up to where the store was). Bradlees was divided up into an Ashley Furniture a...
